Why is “simple play” so valuable?
At M’ agapao we place special emphasis on free, unstructured play — and not by chance! It is the most natural, spontaneous and meaningful way through which children learn, experience, create and develop.
What does “unstructured” mean?
It is play that has no rules, goals or adult guidance. Children choose for themselves what they want to do, how they will do it and with whom. They can create an imaginary world, build “castles” with pillows, make up stories, invent games, create with natural materials or simply freely explore their space.
Why do we prefer it?
Because through free play:
• Imagination, creativity and initiative are cultivated
• Criticism, problem solving and self-regulation are developed
• Social skills, cooperation and negotiation are strengthened
• They learn to manage boredom, organize their time and improvise
Free play is not a "waste of time"; it is a valuable learning process that helps them get to know themselves and the world around them in their own way, at their own pace.
That is why, in our daily schedule, there is always space — and time — for free play. Because we know that, many times, the most essential lessons are hidden in the simplest game.
